MTN appoints Maxwell Takalani Nonge as a new Chief Digital Officer

MTN SA has strengthened its executive team once again following the appointment of Maxwell Takalani Nonge as the new Chief Digital Officer. Nonge’s appointment will be effective 01 September 2016.

Nonge is an accomplished professional who has extensive experience in the telecommunications and broadcasting space.

He has worked for a number of organisations in a career spanning approximately 17 years where he served in a number of roles. Before he accepted his new role at MTN SA, Nonge was the Group Chief Technology Officer for eMedia Investments, and served as Managing Director of Platco Digital, eTV’s sister company, between 2013 and 2016.

He has worked for a number of companies including Sentech where he served in various roles including General Manager for Operations, and at Siemens Telecommunications where he served in various roles in South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Says Mteto Nyati, MTN SA Chief Executive Officer: “MTN is delighted to bring on board a candidate of Nonge’s calibre. The appointment of Nonge gives expression to our recruitment strategy of attracting talent from across the broad range of industries. As our business moves into adjacent areas such as digital and enterprise, we have to adapt our business model and structures to support these changes. In the same vein, we also need to accelerate all aspects of MTN SA’s digital presence, operations and ecosystems by implementing the relevant operational structures and processes.

“We believe that Nonge’s vast experience and expertise will augur well for the advancement of MTN’s digital strategy.”

Nonge adds: “I am pleased to be part of a global multinational such as MTN and I am looking forward to learning from the organisation and contributing positively to help the company to achieve its vision of leading the delivery of a bold, new digital world.
