South Africa’s retail giant Shoprite announced today it has appointed Paul Norman and Dawn Marole as independent non-executive directors of the board. Their appointment is effective 4 March 2022.

contribution to the Group,” the retailer informed investors.
Marole holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), Diploma in Tertiary Education and an MBA.
She is an experienced corporate executive and human resources director and currently
Executive Chairman of Executive Magic.
In addition, Marole is an experienced non-executive director (NED) having served on various boards over the past decade including, more recently, on the Board of MTN (Member: Social and Ethics Committee; Member: Risk, Compliance and Corporate Governance Committee), Kumba Resources (Chairman), and the South African Post
Office. She is currently an outgoing NED for Santam, and her other current positions include independent NED on the board of Resilient REIT (Chair: Risk Committee; Member: Nomination Committee) and Richards Bay Minerals (Chair: HR & Nominations Committee; Member: Social and Ethics Committee).
Marole also Chairs the Dema Group and People Opposing Women Abuse as well as being a Trustee of the Emthunzini BBBEE Community Trust and a member of the Presidential State-Owned Enterprises Council (PSEC).
Norman holds a Master of Arts (Psychology) and an executive MBA.
He is an experienced corporate affairs and human resources executive, employed by the MTN Group (from 1997 to date) as their Group Chief Human Resources Officer.
Norman has chaired the remuneration committees for MTN in various geographies including Cyprus, Yemen, Afghanistan, Dubai, Nigeria and Sudan. He is currently a member of the MTN SA board (Member: Remuneration Committee, Human Resources and Social and Ethics Committee; Member: Nomination and Governance Committee).
